And while on the subject of 2020, let’s talk 2020 Super Felsa Spranger. We have a soft spot for this irreverent and fun Riesling because the inspiration for the wine occurred on a trip to Australia taken by Jérôme and Eric Kientzler (several years ago now).
Back home in Alsace they roped in their old school mate and fellow winemaker, Paul Fuchs, took a colloquial saying from the local Alsatian dialect and turned it, tongue-in-cheek, into a wine brand.
‘Felsaspranger’ (literally ‘rock splitter’), is the local winemaker’s slang for a wine with ‘rock splitting’ levels of acidity! All they needed now was some wine! So they each contributed a parcel of fruit and the Super Felsa Spranger was born.

Far from the implications of the name and the label image though, the wine comes from classic marl and limestone terroirs and is a seriously good Alsatian Riesling.
