July Selection
Variety-Mataro/Monastrell
Mataro (also known as Mourvèdre in Australia wine circles) is believed to have originated in Spain. Many of its common names are derived from Spanish towns — Mataró, near Barcelona, and Murviedro, near Valencia — while in Spain it is more commonly referred to as Monastrell.
The Bud Burst Club
2024 Tim Smith Wines M.G.S, Barossa Valley
Tim has a particular affection for Rhône varieties, though his wines always speak clearly of their Barossa origins. The MGS blend — Mataro, Grenache and Shiraz — reimagines the traditional GSM formula by placing Mataro (also known as Mourvèdre) at the forefront, supported by Grenache and Shiraz.
2024 Ponce Depaula Monastrell, Manchuela, Spain
Juan Antonio Ponce has emerged as one of the leading figures of the new Spanish wine movement. Born into a winemaking family in Manchuela, he refined his craft working alongside renowned producers Telmo Rodriguez, Olivier Rivière and Marcel Lapierre in Beaujolais.
The Old Vine Club
2023 Paralian Mataro, Mclaren Vale
In 2018, after more than a decade working together and building a collection of 46 vintages from around the world, Skye Salter and Charlie Seppelt established Paralian Wines.
2023 Casa Castillo Monastrell, Jumilla, Spain
The estate lies on the slopes of Sierra del Molar at elevations reaching 760 metres above sea level. Of the property’s 405 hectares, 170 are planted to vines, while the remainder is covered by almond and olive groves.

What You Need to Know
How It Works
To make sure customers are kept updated about our findings, every month we send them a two-pack of new wines to try. Both wines in the pack will be made from the same variety of grape but will be from very different parts of the world, allowing customers to compare and contrast their special tastes. To make the learning experience even more comprehensive and exciting, the pack will include informative tasting notes that explore both the grape and the wine.

We can ship around Australia & charge a flat $20 shipping fee. We also only ship when the weather suits. Nobody deserves cooked wine after all!!
