Millton

Gisborne, New Zealand

In 1984 James and Annie Millton established their winery in Manutuke on the banks of the Te Arai River on New Zealand’s fabulous North Island. From the very start of their wine journey they understood great grapes come from healthy vines, living in healthy soil.

So they ramped up production and started growing their grapes bio-dynamically.

For over 35 years these grapes have been grown in the traditional manner using biodynamic techniques. This involves growing the grapes without the use of herbicides, insecticides, systemic fungicides or soluble fertilisers. Instead, special herbal, mineral and animal preparations and teas are used to ripen the grapes to maturity. The grapes are also grown according to cosmic rhythms, which they believe affect these daily activities.
