Critic Review
A new release based on the hot and dry 2022 vintage, this vivid, deep and layered blanc de blancs presents the finest release yet from hotly tipped growers with vineyards based in the grand cru village of Avize. Bourg Sud comes from the vineyards heading towards Oger. It has an entrancing balance between energy of fruit and layered complexity, even at such a young age. There are flavours of toasted hazelnut and brown pastry with a beautifully measured oak influence. It never strays from the verve and vinosity of ultra-ripe, crunchy apricot and lemon-zest Chardonnay fruit. It’s a highly expressive Champagne but one that doesn’t overstep the mark in either ripeness or vinification. Earmark this for anywhere you’d pour a fine still Chardonnay at the table. There’s no need to age this for a long time, either.
