Ouriet is based in the village of Ambonnay, which is home to some of the world’s great Pinot Noir based wines. Their vineyard spans approximately 10 hectares across the esteemed Grand Cru areas of Ambonnay, Bouzy, and Verzenay. With an average vine age of 40 years, the clay-limestone soil, coupled with a favorable south-south-east exposure, contributes to their success. Egly’s meticulous vineyard practices are renowned for nurturing perfectly ripe fruit.
Importer Notes
We say it every year, and we’ll say it again: this is arguably Champagne’s greatest rosé. Why is it so good? Well, the first reason is that the fruit comes from 100% Grand Cru estate vines grown by one of the region’s most meticulous vignerons. Then there is the 5% of Egly’s Coteaux Champenois Rouge—without doubt, the finest red wine of Champagne. This red Pinot gives the wine its colour and a fair amount of its vinous character. The blend is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, with 50% from the 2019 vintage and the reserve wines split between 2018 and 2017. The dosage is a negligible 1 g/L. Interestingly, this is always Egly’s most delicate wine. It’s unbelievably fine, perfumed, delicate and red-fruited; something truly special. It’s also now bottled in dark glass to protect it from light strike.
