Bremley Vineyard sits at the northern edge of Tasmania’s Coal River Valley, a striking, cool-climate site with a growing reputation for precision and purity. First planted in the early 2000s with just two hectares of Chardonnay, the vineyard was purchased by James and Vanessa Bresnehan in 2008. Since then, they’ve expanded plantings to include Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Gamay, growing the estate to 13 hectares.
For many years, the fruit was sold to leading producers, but a desire to express the vineyard’s identity saw the Bresnehans launch their own label in 2021. Working alongside respected winemakers Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley, the focus is firmly on site-driven, single vineyard wines.
The vineyard lies beneath Gunnings Sugarloaf in a natural amphitheatre, sheltered from strong north-westerly winds. Warm, extended growing seasons are balanced by cool nights, while black cracking clay and dolerite soils lend structure and depth.
The Gamay is bright and expressive, centered on red fruits and gentle spice. Fine tannins give shape without weight, resulting in a fresh, balanced wine that’s immediately appealing and highly versatile at the table.
