2021 Les Fruits ‘Collines’ Syrah

Two parcels – A savoury dark fruited Adelaide Hills parcel with 50% whole bunches and a 100% whole bunch carbonic parcel from Top Range in the McLaren Vale ranges. Very different wines but have blended nicely thanks to their common whole bunch thread.
Vibrant crimson hued red with some youthful inkiness but still on the lighter side for ‘shiraz’. Complex notes of savoury kalamata olive tapenade blend with more opulent blue fruits, sweet spices and graphite,
dried flowers and dried herbs. Not a seamless blend of the two parcels but perfectly complimentary in opposition. The real test of Syrah vs Shiraz as an expression is the ‘sweetness’ of fruit on the palate. No question here. While there is abundant ripe red, blue and dark fruit its ‘sweetness’ if balanced by savoury dark spice and tapenade, juicy blackberry acidity and fine grained tannins structure a long dry/tart finish. 12.1%.
