Monsieur Bachelet’s 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin “Vieilles Vignes” is absolutely superb this year, with a beautiful synthesis of deep and sappy fruit coupled to striking minerality. The nose jumps from the glass in an evocative blend of black raspberries, grilled meats, black cherries, toasty oak, a beautiful base of black minerality and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and almost sumptuous on the attack, with great depth in the mid-palate, fine-grained tannins and impeccable focus and grip on the long, complex and sappy finish. I love the backend energy and lift here! 2023-2060.
