2010 Yannick Amirault Pavillon du Grand Clos Bourgueil

This supreme offering comes from the Middle Loire Valley, home of viticulture since the days of the Roman Empire. Here you’ll find one of the leading domaines of the Bourgueil and St Nicolas de Bourgueil appellations. Specifically, this is Yannick Amirault, ten vineyards in 19 hectares, set on the Loire’s right bank, and established over eighty years ago. Grapes are tended in conjunction with the lunar calendar, hand-picked, and aged in amphora or casks.

Created in only selected vintages, this 2010 Yannick Amirault Pavillon du Grand Clos is the very definition of a ‘limited production Cuvée’. It is a Cabernet Franc, gloriously rich in fruity character; scents of blackberry mingling with a hint of black pepper. Then – wow – here comes true Cabernet character; a magnificent mingling of fruit, green peppercorn, and bay leaf.

On your palate – a velvety, creamy, ripe fruit texture, matched with the plushest of tannins. As bright as it is ripe, ending with the sense of rose petals and violets, this choice offers the bright complexity of spring itself. It needs to be savoured!
