Currently a name gaining huge attention in Burgundy, fifth-generation wine-maker Henri took over the business as the new millennium dawned, and since then, the reputation of their wines has gone from strength to strength. Joined by son Guillaume, who has been vinifying the reds for almost a decade, Henri now focuses on their whites.
The winery holds a stunning 19 hectares around Meursault and Puligny; this includes a monopole ‘Clos de la Mouchere’ – a 79-year-old vineyard in Les Perrieres. This particular wine, among so many great choices, is our personal top pick as it offers unmatched value. Famed critic Allen Meadows describes the 2016 as ‘A gem of a Puligny 1er’ – it’s a truly lovely blend of power with finesse.
Boillot Wines are appreciated for an excellence of purity, sustainable vine management, low yields picked late for optimum ripeness – and their avoidance of chemicals. The grapes are whole bunch pressed, and then aged in larger 350L barrels (favourably comparing to the standard of 228L). As well as avoiding battonage, this allows for a better freshness of taste.
